HDTV stands for High Definition Television.Some may also call it in short-HD.The HDTV is a television system that boasts twice the scanning lines as compared to traditional television,or in technical terms,Standard Definition Television(SDTV or SD)

HDTV is currently the highest quality television.HDTV is always designed to give a wide screen of 16:9 ratio,the same as a movie screen.

HDTV gives more scanning lines,which make better quality picture.Its progressive scan(p) processes the image twice as fast compared to interlaced(i)and leads to better clarity and more lively colour.

At the back of a HDTV set,we may see some figures,i.e.720p,1080i and 1080p.These figures determine the resolution quality of that HDTV.For purchasing decision,1080p is considered the best.The HDTVs with 720p and 1080i produce minimal resolution difference.

But for 32 inches HDTV and smaller sizes,the resolution quality produced by either 1080p or 720p are not significantly different.
